Project Description

Lauren aims to improve the understanding of algae production on wastewater by investigating algae grazers, microbes that consume large quantities of algae that can cause pond 'crashes,' and algae probiotics, microbes that form communal relationships with algae. Investigating and modeling these communities will improve environmental and economic conditions for algal biofuels. The models developed from Lauren's research are expected to inform decisions regarding the cultivation of algae for water treatment and generation of biomass for biofuels. Lauren previously served as a CNI Fellow at the Office of the President, and brings a wealth of engagement expertise to share with her 2016-17 team.
